9/11

Watching all the tribute and remembrance ceremonies of the 9/11 tragedy helped me to reflect of where I was and what I was doing when the planes hit. I recall living in Fargo at the time and arriving to work at Valentino's Restaurant. My boss was watching a small T.V. in the party/side room (which has now been remodeled) watching the breaking news and calling to us to come over. I remember watching in astonishment at the insane and unbelievable tragedy, that the Republicans have begun to "trademark" since then, unfold. It also makes me think of my parents and many of yours talking about the day Elvis died, JFK was shot, or when Lennon was murdered. This is an event that will become something passed on to our children. You know, of where we were and what we were doing when the planes hit.

So, my question to you is:

Where were you and what were you doing when the planes hit the Twin Towers seven years ago?

I was also living in Fargo (before making the upgrade to Moorhead!)

I was in bed - I believe it was a tuesday or thursday - I didn't have English class until 9:45 that day so I could sleep in a little bit.

I watched the news coverage for a little bit in bed but then got up and went to class. Our teacher wanted to go watch the news so she sent us home.

I was also in Fargo! I didn't have class that day until like 1 pm, so I slept in. My alarm was going off and someone was talking about bombs. I kept hitting snooze. Finally I woke up and went out into the living room. My sister was working to to a Tae Bo video. I asked her if she knew what was going on. She said something about planes hitting a building in NYC but was pretty nonchalant about it. It wasn't until I went online and read about it and then went to my one class at 1 pm...it was surreal. We talked about it in class. Crazy from then on...

I was in Fargo at my old apartment at Southpointe. I had the day off of work and only one night class (which was cancelled). I was awoken by my Mom who was freaking out a bit because she didn't know where Heather's work was in Manhattan. At the time, it was in Chelsea, a good mile or more away from the World Trade Center complex. A few minutes into the phone call, the NBC News Pentagon correspondent Jim Miklaszewski was on the TV saying there was an explosion at the Pentagon. That is when I almost flipped out because my Uncle Tom works there. Luckily, Tom was not in the area that was hit.

Osama Bin Laden is still out there. Thanks Bush!
